The Dr Loosen estate has been in the same family for more than 200 years. It has the largest holdings in the legendary four-acre Erdener Pralat site, considered by many to be the Mosel's finest vineyard. The site has perfect southern exposure with a 45-degree slope, very old vines and a mineral-rich red soil directly alongside the river. It produces kaleidoscopic wines from fully botrytis-affected bunches, meaning rich, juicy, sweet fruit flavours with great intensity and length.
The Dr. Loosen estate has been in the same family for over 200 years. When Ernst Loosen assumed ownership in 1988, he realized that with ungrafted vines averaging 60 years old in some of Germany’s best-rated vineyards, he had the raw materials to create stunningly intense, world-class wines. His vision and uncompromising pursuit of quality are not only reflected in his wines, but also widely recognized by the international wine press. Ernst Loosen has done invaluable work to re-establish worldwide admiration and demand for German wines, and he was named "Man of the Year 2005" by Decanter Magazine.
